Those two letters is all it takes and NEPA knows you’re talking about the guy on 97 BHT! Once mistaken as a Backstreet Boy, thus given the moniker “A.J.,” he’s been in our lives through the airwaves for almost a decade. He’s woken us up and driven us home. We’ve showered with him and sat in traffic with him. Maybe we’ve even gone to sleep wih him. HA! Over the years, the NEPA native has certainly become a local celebrity. The paparazzi are often camped outside the BHT studio.
A.J.’s radio career began before he was even old enough to drive! After graduating from Coughlin High School, he spent three years in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina. He moved home to NEPA in 1999 when he became the night guy on 97BHT—and his talent didn’t go unnoticed! He rocked the night show for almost a year, and moved to afternoons, which lasted a whole four months. In January 2001, “The Jenn and A.J. Morning Show” made its debut on 97 BHT. A.J. also became the Music Director and Assistant Program Director.
Those seven years were filled with a lot of laughs and a lot of awesome moments on the morning show. A.J. loved every minute of it…except his alarm clock at 3:45AM. But now, he can sleep in! December 2007 not only brought A.J. back to the afternoon, and gave him the title as Program Director of 97 BHT, but it also introduced “Kidd Kraddick In The Morning” to Northeastern Pennsylvania; a show that A.J. truly loves and believes in.
In his spare time—and after the paparazzi are gone—A.J. likes to hang out with friends at his favorite bars and clubs, hit up the gym or chill with his cat, C.J. He’s also known for his exemplary text messaging skills, sometimes while driving. (Those celebrities do crazy things!)
A.J. loves meeting his listeners, so if you see him out don’t hesitate to say hi! His baby blue eyes and that sexy voice are hard to resist. And to this day, whenever he’s asked the obligatory, “What does A.J. stand for?” he just smiles and says, “It’s a nickname.” No one will ever know.
